ISO presented the Grifo prototype at the Turin Motor Show at the end of 1963: a new dream car, created by Giorgio Giugiaro - the head of design at Bertone - was born and made wealthy men's drivers sleep more restlessly. The lines of this Gran Turismo with the panoramic rear window are a big hit from every angle, so that Renzo Rivolta, as owner of "ISO Automotoveicoli", rightly saw himself in the top league of Italian sports car manufacturers. However, it was not an own engine that provided powerful propulsion, but the 5.4 litre V8 of the Chevrolet Corvette.
This hybrid constellation was very popular at the time and allowed the pilot to relax, as the powerful unit had already been tried and tested thousands of times and was recognised as being uncomplicated. With the "7 litri", the nonplus ultra of the first series with a maximum speed of almost 300 km/h (with long axle ratio) came onto market in 1968 and caused a real sensation…The Grifo 7 litri presented here is a real automotive rarity! Between 1968 and 1970 only 65 units of the hatchback coupe with the 400 SAE-HP GM big-block engine were produced.
The car was delivered in Germany via the then ISO importer Auto Becker and was first registered on May 8th in 1970. The further succession of owners from 1976 onward can be traced in the old German motor vehicle registration document, which is still available. After its deregistration in November 1978 the Grifo stood still for some time before it was extensively restored in the 1990s by a well-known specialist in Germany.A photo documentation of this nut & bolt restoration is available. This original 7-litre Grifo went through us five years ago to the last owner. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a particularly beautiful specimen in a timeless colour combination.
